I feel it is up to the type of the individual and their influential strength.

we change teh world around us everyday. however, we do not do it of our own free will, for tehere is no free will. the world ismoving as a result of a causal chain started at teh dawn of ime, andit will end when it does. there is nothing we can do, however, we decieve ourselves and believe that we are thcauses of teh change.

if you do think we can change the world how do we go about doing so?

The journey of a thousand miles begins with that of one step, we must begin within ourselves, to better our ethics and to become a positive role model if you will in order to change the tide of negativity.
the more that this happens the more the odds change, that are against us.

That may have worked back in the samurai days, Not now. times change.
i may just sound crazy, but i think it all depends on how exactly you would define 'change'.

-I would like to say that i believe we cannot change teh world, simply because we have no free will., teh world in which we now live is teh result of a causal chain that was started before our time, and will continue past our time. we are the unwitting pawns of this chain, and thus have no free will, and have therefore got no morals of which tospeak, because they don't exist, they are an illusion we place in front of us so as to make ourselves feel good.
however, lets go on teh assumption here that we are not inks in a causal chain, and that i am wrong. i'm merely saying this because i need an excuse for a good arguemnet, and i don't want to g get food yet this morning. damned lazy legs...
anyways. the first question, "can we change teh worlkd?" yes, given one thing, we become a part of teh problem. the way that the world is engineered today we have to become a part of teh diseased, corrupt system and destroy it from teh inside out. and of course, the only way to have any kind of power within the systems that have been established are to get to teh top and topple the rower of Babble from above. however, here's teh catch in this; in order to reach the top of teh system, you need to become apart of it, and work with it. before you reach your goal you will become corrupted and tainted by teh very thing yuo are trying to destroy, and you will become just another part of it. your attempt at change will rsult in change, but not teh change you wish for.
next, as far as morals and character, lets go on teh ssumption that yes, these do exist, and yes, they can be changed, and yes, they do matter more than a rats ass. Often times, our morals and character are a double bruden. while they can define who yuo are, and candefine what yuo will do, they also defoine what you will not do, which actually, may be something you ned to do in order to save yourself. anyways, a person, as tehy grow and develop into an adult, and in fact, even after that process is complete are still making the moral or character blueprints tehy follow. now, every person is unique, and i won't get inbto defining this idea too much, because, franly, i don't have te energy.
anyways, the morals present within society today, are corrupt, and will remain so forever, regardless of how they change over time. you see, there is always two sides to a story, and one of them will view an action, any action in a negative snes. for exampole, you buy a piece of clothing becase it has advertised that the company is sending a portion of teh profits to international aides or charities, however, teh shirt was made in a sweatshop. I am reminded of the graphic novel "Superman: Red Son" it portrays superman if he had landed on earth 12 hours later, in Russia. he is still a doogooder of teh people, and he protects everyone who needs his help, be they american, or russian. he still has teh moral convictions to do teh right thing. the only difference is that he does it under the Communist flag, and he is not afraid, because of his upbringing in the Ukraine, to make people see just how right he is. his morals are still the same, but the system in which he is in is differnet. and that i think is teh very nature of the world in which we live, our morals can be teh same; do teh right thing at all costs, but because of who we stand by when we do such a thing is what makes ius classed as a bad or good guy. the opensource debate is classic for this. anyone who is seen agreeing with any of MicroSoft's practicves are either insulted or shunned to a degree, inless they ake apoint of arguing tehir case, and making it well known that they are right (on some issues, but not all). Anyone seen to oppose MS is often shunned and treated like a zealot for a valid, yet ill-used cause. the problem with this two sided debate is that both saides have their good and bad points. now, case scenario here, take a person who believes in open source. tehir moral convictions drive them to ensure that their stuff is good and clean.
i will continue this mini-essay later, when i have more time. until then, i hope i have given some food for thjought... mm.. food..... me hungry

For DJ XB:Perhaps, but somethings still live on.
For Seig:The definition of change that I am refering to is that of reform, for the better.
For Road_Kill: I feel that morals and values are a guidelines to utilize to live.
you do bring up some valid points like becoming corrupt while gaining access to high influential powers. But it is not possible to do such get things by being an civilian, For a example like the guy in China who stood in front of moving tanks, in order to protest them.
Hope you got something to eat.

No person alone can change the world. Only a large group of people can change it. For when people unite as one it makes others want to join in. This is why we have a problem with terrorists. It's human nature to want to stand out in the crowd and make a difference

it's possible to change the world i mean look at the pope. one person can change our world it all depends on how we act towards others and towards ourselves. if u act in evil ways it will cause people to either become like u or try to stay away from u and act there own way weither it be good or bad. so says my familys saying (everyone may be different from u, but it only takes u to change the world so it may be a better place)

well, of coarse we can, if we want to, that is...
look at ghandi, he changed an entire country just by himself almost!
Napoleon and Hitler controlled stuff, but they still changed it...
Einstein, Franklin, and Edison changed it
of coarse we can, if we want to, that is...

Yes... but conformity is become stronger, and people who dont conform these days are getting more punished. I dunno... i wanna change the world, but i dont think i will be able to... but i'm gonna try.

If the world is in need of changing, and it certainly is is some aspects, then we'll be the ones to do it, right?

Right! It'll be hard to keep ahold of the ideas that we wish to follow and instill in the minds of others, but it will be perfectly possible. We just have to take it one step at a time and put forth our best effort. Yeah, all of what I'm saying probably sounds cliche, but it's true. One person can make a difference, it just takes a bit of time. If we care enough and can find others who care as passionately about the same thing then you can branch out even more until you have a large group willing to find more ways to improve what you're doing. There are a lot of different organizations rasing money for Hurricane Katrina victims, but even our school is going to help out and donate by raising money. So, if you think about it, you just have to keep in the back of your mind the reason why you're doing it so that you don't change what happens and causes you to lose the reason why you started to try something in the first place. So, if that appeared to be worded weird, you'll have to forgive me. It sounded okay when I typed it up and reread it and it still does, so...bear with me. Nyah.

the only thing I think should change is that guns should be banned and everyone should go back to swords and other various blades and blunt objects... I like guns, but I'd much rather fight some one w/ a sword than shoot them w/o them being able to defend themselves...

How would that improve the world? (Other than the fact that there would be no shootings.)

Swords rock! Besides, wouldnt you like to see the blood all over the blade? I know that I would be a berserker, and it would make me want to join the military just so that I could kill people. (did I mention that I like swords?)

Understanding my poor ability at any kind of weapon sport, I'd probably stick the fencing sword (which i think is called a foil or something) In my eyes through the meshing of the headware! lol... that would be my luck!
Guns are so evil, i think swords would be better anyways, injuries would be easier to treat i tell you!

Really? It looks like so much fun. Kind of like River dancing...Except quite different. If that makes sense...<< >>

The movements can be quite like a dance, if you forget the deadly consequences of a mistake. I practice with a katana in my right and a short sword in my left. I use the dancing blades style of sword fighting which allows you to strike at random places to get under someones guard.

because guns are cheap and kill people too easily, and swords would be less likely to kill because people wouldn't want to fight to the death as much as do a drive-by
AkutoraBacon
09-23-2005, 09:11 AM
You wouldn't be able to do a drive by with a sword unless if it was held out of the window...Or something. << >>

But you could with throwing knives. You just have to be careful with fingerprints.

yes, but throwing knives is a hell of a lot harder than shooting a gun, which is why I am all for throwing weapons

WE will have no time to vhange cause the worlds goin to end soon. But we are going to change one thing, Taking the humans off the face of the earth. It does have a reason, cause the world wasnt ment for wars and death, its meant for people to get along and have peace. But it might be to late. This is a punishment for the world. The apocalipse. It might not come but no one knows that. But my prediction is that it will come in a hundreds of years or we will destroy ourselfs. We probally have no time to change. But thats my opinion. Does anybody agree?

If we carry our exploitation like we are now, then my guess is that by 2500 ... the human race wont exist. So I agree totally. It pisses me that people cant see that change is need, and extremely quickly! People shy away from the problem, as if it has nothing to do with them, as they cant help change it. THEY'RE WRONG! If all of us realised that if we all helped, then we could! GAH! some selfish people... and human evil! bah humbug!

I agree, If everybody realised then we could all change.
Maybe this will help you realise...
