Sorry I've been away for so long. Right now my usual hangout is the spoony experiment. I go there just about every day. (If you go there too, I'm the darkdriver over there.)
Anyway, I have a thread over there that explains all the secrets concerning Serial Experiments: Lain. If anyone wants the secrets, I can drop them over here...
...and to whet some appetites, I'll drop a few:
The name comes from the fact that Pioneer thought that the "narrabase" videogame would be so popular that they could make a series out of it. "Lain" was to be the first 'serial experiment', not the only 'serial experiment'. When it bombed, Pioneer decided that it would try recouping the money as a merchandiseable anime series.
And concerning the videogame...the doll held by the girl in Ep. 4 is actually Lain's doll from the videogame...
...the reference to the online heroine Lain by Eiri was a reference to the videogame, since it's about an online girl named Lain...
and the Cyberia Mix CD is truly a mix CD, in that it has remixes of music from the anime series and the videogame.
